The Aeotec Heavy Duty 40A Smart Switch for 240v applications is a great device for you to use for your 240v applications. In the US, this would include water heaters, A/C systems, or well pump controls to name a few. There are some alternative ways to control the power of these devices, but this is a very simple device that will work for a lot of applications – which is important since there aren’t many devices in this space of the smart home market.
There are two reasons we can’t recommend this device:
- We have not tested this device for any long periods so we can’t comment on it’s reliability (although some online reviews state that the device has failed)
- If the device does fail, it would be a very difficult replacement for anyone besides a trained electrician to take care of — and you’d need a backup device already on-site and paired to your system.
We like the device and the simplicity, but want you to be cautious and have a backup plan in place in the event it does fail.
