The Nvidia Shield TV Pro Streaming device has been a staple in our short-term rental properties for years. We first made the switch before they came out with their current remote, and went all-in when their remote was released a few years ago. It has been a fantastic device and we have one on every TV in all of our short-term rental properties.
These devices are robust and have a ton of features. For any short-term rental host, it provides the ability for your guests to log in and stream any of their own services, as well has having your accounts hooked up to it. This is mostly just a feature of Android TV, but we love the setup because it is easy for guests to use. The universal remote has been amazing since there is only one remote needed for guests – and we keep a spare in our lock-off which is already paired to the device so we can swap it out if we ever lose a remote or a guest accidentally breaks one.
The biggest drawbacks are the price (it is still one of the most expensive options on the market) and Nvidia’s lack of support and updates as of late. It doesn’t mean the devices still aren’t great and function well, they just haven’t been doing regular updates recently. The device also has quite a bit of computing power which is great for anyone who wants to do gaming, but not necessary if you are just using it to stream to your TV.
While we like this device, the price point is a bit high for most people and we’re not sure what Nvidia’s plans are for the future. Overall you can’t go wrong with this device.
